Florida picnic ruined by hungry alligator

People enjoying a picnic in Florida recently had to run for their lives after a hungry alligator emerged from nearby waters in a bid to join them.

A number of people were enjoying an al fresco meal in Homestead in the Sunshine State when the huge reptile climbed up a riverbank and headed straight for their culinary delights.

The scary moment was captured on camera by Rodney Cammauf and he explained those living in this part of the world have to be very careful with alligators.

"In this particular location, alligators are used to seeing people and many often throw food into the water so they have a taste for it now," he said.

Mr Cammauf added that he returned to the scene later in the day to see someone with experience of the beasts chase the alligator back into the water, but sadly for the diners all of their food had been eaten.
