Today (June 21st), the Armed Forces flag is to be hoisted in recognition of servicemen at a gathering in Corby, the Evening Telegraph reports.

Councillor Ann Brown, the town’s mayor, will be in attendance and is to deliver a speech to show her appreciation for the troops.

Ms Brown said the occasion will provide the opportunity to "show members of our local community who have served, are still serving or will serve in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces that we support them and are proud of them".

Armed Forces Week will be running until Saturday – which is Armed Forces Day – and it aims to celebrate soldiers of the past, present and future.

At least 500 residents from Norwich took to the streets recently to welcome home and express their gratitude to troops native to the city who have been serving in Afghanistan.
