As the saying goes ‘we are what we eat’ and troops wanting to beef up should make sure they eat the right grub.

According to Metro International, there are five foodstuffs which will help guys and girls strengthen their biceps, triceps and more.

First up are pumpkin seeds which are high in protein and mono saturated fats, while also containing high levels of magnesium ‘which helps to maintain a healthy heart beat rhythm, essential when working out’.

Salmon is another recommendation, as it is rich in omega 3 fatty acids which help the body recover after a hard workout, the newspaper said.

Troops should follow the advice of Popeye and get as much spinach as they can, the news provider added, stating that its high levels of calcium and magnesium ‘make it an excellent bone builder’.

The final two ingredients are oats, which contain lots of phosphorous, and eggs, which are rich in amino acids.

Mitch Batkin, senior vice president at Sportandhealth.com, told the Washington Post’s Express blog recently that eating the right food is the best way to supplement a workout.
