Farmer mistakenly instructs a wolf to look after sheep

A farmer in Poland has realised in the nick of time that a dog he took in to help look after his sheep was actually a wolf.

Zbigniew Pieczyk, 50, allowed a stray puppy to stay with him after he found him close to his land in Podlasie, and only became suspicious that all might not be what it seemed when the animal began to howl all night.

Eventually, he realised it was a wolf and was able to remove the creature from his farm before it had the chance to attack any sheep.

"I thought it was a sheepdog or a German shepherd. Then when it started to howl every night I realised I'd made one hell of a mistake and I called the police," Mr Pieczyk told the Metro.

The consequences of his well-intentioned actions could have been disastrous for the livestock at the farm, so it is a good job the farmer realised the error of his ways so soon.
