Charity fundraising sometimes involves high-octane activities like sky dives, and it's sometimes a little more low key, but still incredibly useful to good causes.

The Help for Heroes HMS Drake recovery centre has recently been given a donation following coffee morning fundraising by a families centre in Torpoint.

The families centre now has its eye on bringing in funds – at coffee morning events – for a charity dealing with bowel cancer, reports The Plymouth Herald.

It comes after the Trevorder Families Centre, a Royal Navy centre serving both military and civilian locals, gave a £135 cheque to the HMS Drake recovery centre.

Sheena Adams, a member of the families centre committee, told the news provider earlier this week: "We were very lucky today to be able to visit the centre to present the cheque, and I'm sure there will be lots of work done in the future between the families centre and the recovery centre."

The recovery centre works in the rehabilitation of service members, both veterans and people still serving.

It comes after Help for Heroes was revealed as one of several service charities that will be helped by an upcoming Tower of London event.

Historic Royal Palaces has given word that the Tower is set to be home to a moat-based installation featuring thousands of ceramic poppies starting towards the beginning of August this year.

People are set to be able to buy these special poppies, and proceeds from sales given to a selection of service charities. It's part of marking the 100 year anniversary of the First World War.

It's hoped the poppy sale will raise more than £15 million for the service charities involved.

As well as Help for Heroes, these include Combat Stress, the Royal British Legion and other organisations.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801720857-ADNFCR
