A former soldier has taken to the water to raise money for a troops’ charity.

Ken Timms and his great-nephew Daniel Brown have completed a journey via canoe from Selby to Liverpool to generate funds for Help for Heroes, Look Local reports.

The pair also aimed to raise cash for Save the Children and were provided with the vessel by Rob Brown and Peter Bridle, both of the Hull and District Canoe Club.

However, Mr Timms was taken to hospital with a broken collar bone three days in to the expedition.

Chris Rees, a graduate from Leeds, stepped in for the injured party and the duo completed the challenge, while Mr Timms walked the remaining 120 miles and all three of them reached Liverpool on July 3rd – having set off on June 23rd.

Personal trainer Rob Back recently organised a mud-run to raise money for injured soldier Michael Yule in an effort to heighten awareness regarding the obstacles soldiers face.
