An ex-soldier is to take to the water in an effort to help heroic troops injured in battle.

Burgh le Marsh resident John Chapman will take part in every British Gas swim event held this season, the Skegness Standard reports.

And the money the former serviceman – who served for six years in the Royal Regiment of Wales – raises will go to the Help for Heroes charity.

The undertaking involves five one-mile outdoor contests across the UK – two of which, at Alton Waters in Suffolk and Royal Victoria Dock in London – Mr Chapman has already completed.

He remarked: Everyone who has helped has been fantastic, let’s hope we can raise some money for the lads."

Next up is a swim meet in Strathclyde, Scotland, which will take place on August 21st.

Rock star Rod Stewart recently announced he was granting free access to members of the Armed Forces to a number of his upcoming gigs.
