An ex-Royal Marine Commando is just one of a number of participants to support soldiers with a walking challenge.

Greg Pye is organising the Three Peaks Challenge in honour of Help for Heroes, Click Liverpool reports.

He will be joined by at least 50 other people who will walk up and down the UK's top-three highest hills.

"I launched the initiative because I've lost so many friends in Afghanistan and I wanted to do something to help the country's heroes," Mr Pye commented.

It is hoped the team will raise tens of thousands of pounds in their missions, which run from July to September.

Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon will be tackled by the teams made up of personnel from businesses such as Go Commando, Shop Direct Group and staff at Walsall Hospital.

According to guidelines on the Three Peaks Challenge website, all of the mountains must be completed within 24 hours.
