A bricklayer from Wales will scale Everest as part of a military charity challenge.

Roger Jones is one of four people selected – one each from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland – to take part in Everest 2012 and all of the money raised will go to Walking With The Wounded.

Speaking to ITV, Mr Jones said he was "bursting with pride" to be involved and is looking forward to bringing the Welsh flag to the summit.

"I'm a massive supporter of the armed forces and all they do for us … I can't wait to do us proud as a nation," he added.

Mr Jones went on to note he has been climbing Snowdon and the Conwy Mountains in order to prepare himself for the expedition.

The team taking part is hoping to raise £2 million from scaling the mountain and the money will go towards re-training injured servicemen and women to help them adapt to their new lives.
