Britons may be used to aspiring to owning a bigger and better home, but there can be very few buyers interested in an entire town.

However, that is exactly what is on offer in Devon, after the owner of Bantham decided to put it up for sale.

Evans Estates owns the land, buildings and surfing beaches of the south Devon village and wants £10 million to hand it over to an investor.

The company also owns land in Wales and Dorset and is putting up its portfolio for sale, with all the assets expected to fetch around £35 million.

Barbara Tucker, a tenant of Evans Estates and manager of Bantham village shop, said there is plenty of uncertainty and anxiety among locals.

She said all people can hope is that the new owner will be sympathetic to their needs and allow families to remain in their homes, with some having lived in the town for 60 years.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801659845-ADNFCR
