Some of the UK's best-known footballers have shown their support for soldiers by boosting awareness of a Help for Heroes campaign.

The England Footballers Foundation (EFF) marked St George's Day at the weekend (April 23rd) by encouraging people to join the 1H4H initiative, which asks supporters to give up one hour of their time or pay to support the charity.

Injured soldier Pete Dunning remarked: "It's great support we are getting from the England footballers.

"They are representing queen and country in their job, just in a different way."

England captain John Terry has previously spoke of his admiration for the troops, stating sportspeople and soldiers "share the same national pride".

The EFF – which was set up in 2007 and has raised over £1 million – named Help for Heroes as its new charity partner in February 2011, as well as agreeing to support Cancer Research UK and continue its existing outreach scheme.
