Members of the emergency services in Scarborough are doing their bit for brave soldiers wounded while fighting on the front line.

The group will be taking part in a fundraising event being held at the newly refurbished Barbican bar on St Nicholas Street, the Scarborough Evening News reports.

Having undergone an £85,000 refit, the venue is to hold its official opening party in honour of Help for Heroes.

Manager of the establishment Darren Johnson said the spectacle will be a fitting way to mark the reopening.

He noted: "When the idea was put to me I jumped at the chance to be involved. Our soldiers, aircrew and sailors deserve all the support of the whole country."

Help for Heroes does "fantastic work" for those troops who need support, Mr Johnson added.

A group of 11 golf industry professionals recently raised more than £30,000 for the charity's Battle Back initiative when they completed the Three Peaks Challenge – which sees participants attempt to scale Snowdon, Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike.
