People in Chester have been given a surprise by the sight of a dolphin swimming through the city.

The mammal has been spotted and photographed in the River Dee, reaching Chester after swimming miles further inland than such a creature would be expected to.

It marks the latest development in the dolphin's journey, after it was also seen in Connah's Quay docks on Monday (August 19th) and Saltney in Flintshire.

Experts from a local marine rescue charity are monitoring the dolphin in a bid to ensure it does not come to any harm.

Stephen Marsh of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue said: "The reports from the public said it was swimming quite a lot, clicking quite a lot, so it's probably feeding."

He added that the body will not get involved with the dolphin unless it runs into trouble, and his colleagues are hoping it will simply swim back out to sea in the coming days.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801628122-ADNFCR
