Single soldiers looking to get into a relationship may have differing ideas on age gaps between potential partners.

A recent poll by YouGov discovered some 57 per cent of Britons think it is acceptable to be romantically linked with someone who is ten years younger than themselves.

Commenting, The Dating Guru James Preece says: "As long as everyone is on the same page right from the start, then there is no reason not to have a happy relationship."

There is an average difference of between three and six years between the typical married couple, but that does not mean other variations will not work.

Mr Preece claims there is a social acceptance of older men dating younger females, but recent trends have seen this reversed.

He says there are so many ways to meet people these days – which includes online dating – that singletons of all ages have a range of options at their fingertips.
