People who sign up for online dating sites should brace themselves for rejection, both in the shape of potential partners not replying to their messages and conversations being abandoned.
Jim Duzak, writing for the Green Valley News and Sun, has answered a letter from reader Jill in which she asks why she is being ignored by men online, despite ticking all the boxes they claim to be looking for.
"Thoughtlessness and bad manners are common in the world of online dating. I suppose you could say that's true of life in general these days, but the anonymity of dating sites only makes things worse," Mr Duzak explained.
He went on to suggest people who are searching for a partner online should seek to find a balance between being optimistic and reality.
If optimism is not present in an online dater, they may as well give up before they start, but similarly people should remain realistic about who they are likely to find.
