David Beckham and Ray Winstone have visited wounded soldiers during a visit to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

Both the footballer and actor popped in to give troops injured on the front line a morale boost as they continue their recovery, the Daily Mirror reports.

The pair spent 90 minutes chatting with people and posing for photographs, before holding a meeting with staff from the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine.

This centre seeks to provide medical support to military operational deployments, while it is also a dedicated training centre.

A military source told the paper: "Both stars were made very welcome during their trip … It was clear that both David and Ray knew that the real stars of the day were the military people."

Once the pair had finished their trip, they stopped by the Teenage Cancer Trust's Young Persons' Unit and spent some time there as well.
