Injecting a sense of fun into proceedings could be the ideal way for single soldiers to break the ice on a first date, it has been suggested.

Writing for Manchester Confidential, Mark Jorgensen admitted he was nervous when approaching online dating but claimed a first hook-up with a twist helped settle him down.

The reporter went to a dating event that involved pizza making and explained the prospect of dough massage and topping arrangement could be "used as an ice-breaker and fun twist to an evening which, otherwise, has the potential to be monumentally awkward for all concerned".

Mr Jorgensen said he could see such an approach being "a great idea to meet people" – suggesting online daters may want to think twice before meeting prospective partners at the usual haunts.

It was recently suggested meeting a person over the internet can lead to more than a one-night stand, after the FDL Reporter noted thousands of people get married through the method.
