A darts and poker marathon has helped raise thousands of pounds for brave soldiers injured while fighting for their country.

Members of Hanworth Social Club held the 12-hour event at The Pines Community Centre on Saturday, April 30th – with proceeds going towards Help for Heroes, Get Bracknell reports.

Val Graves, who organised the fundraiser, revealed nine darts players were playing constant games of 401, while nine poker competitors had to keep buying in chips to keep the game going.

"A lot of the people on the darts team are darts players and a couple wanted to keep going for 24 hours," she noted.

Ms Graves added that she hopes the effort will raise nearly £4,000 – including sponsorship – for the Help for Heroes cause.

The Leader recently reported actress Bev Callard, who played Liz McDonald in Coronation Street, was among those who attended a charity supper in aid of Help for Heroes, which also featured an auction and musical performances.
