An 11-hour danceathon has been held in Brighouse in order to raise as much money as possible for Help for Heroes.

Organisers of the event, which saw more than 100 people turn up at the Ritz Ballroom for a jive, are hopeful they may beat last year's total of £20,000 raised for charity, reports the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.

The danceathon was scheduled to coincide with Remembrance Sunday and many of the dancers dressed in military uniforms, while the ballroom was decorated in a Union Jack theme.

Sheila Kearns, who helped to organise the event, said: "This is the third year we have done the danceathon. It has grown in popularity. It's been absolutely fantastic – the costumes, the DJs, the ladies who have helped with the food."

A host of dance groups from across Yorkshire and the north-west showed up to display their skills on the dancefloor, with Huddersfield's own Putting On The Ritz among the stars.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801660220-ADNFCR
