Single soldiers looking to add a new dimension to the bedroom may be interested to hear that British couples are becoming increasingly open to using sex toys.

Speaking at consumer lifestyle event The Vitality Show, Neal Slateford, director of online sex toy and lingerie retailer LoveHoney, said: "We sell a lot to couples who are keen to spice things up and just explore a bit more. It’s just a general cultural thing where it has become more acceptable."

He went on to add that while 2009 was the best year in terms of sales the site as ever seen, he predicts the sex toy industry will get bigger and more mainstream over the coming five years.

According to LoveHoney, the average UK adult spends £6.57 on things to help spice up their sex life each year.

Single soldiers living in Upminster are likely to be the kinkiest Brits, spending 7.9 times the national average on their sex lives.
