A group of veterans is set to perform the Bard's most famous play next month, at a London theatre tightly bound with his legacy.

The Combat Veteran Players is a drama group for military veterans who have experienced psychological trauma.

On July 12th, they'll be presenting Hamlet, Shakespeare's famous tragedy about a man who is told by his father's ghost that his uncle is a killer, in a special morning performance at 10:00.

They'll be doing this at Shakespeare's Globe, the open-air theatre on the South Bank, and the performance will cost nothing to attend.

The drama group has worked with the Globe's education department, Globe Education, in the past, when they explored characterisation and text as well as developing expression and self-confidence skills.

Practitioners from the department are set to help them in the run up to the big day, with Combat Veteran Players members getting advice right on the stage of the Globe, from movement and sound experts.

The players certainly know their stuff, as the drama group specialises in Shakespeare.

All of them have seen British Armed Forces service and had a diagnosis of mental trauma at some point in their lives.

Members come from a diverse range of military backgrounds and don't have to have previous experience of theatre to take part in the group.

It comes after Shakespeare's Globe, which is designed to replicate a theatre from Shakespeare's day, gave word of it's 2014 Book Award shortlist.

Staged every two years, the award honours first monographs about Shakespeare and the playwright's contemporaries. This year's winner is announced next month.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801730700-ADNFCR
