A soldier dubbed Combat Barbie after winning the title of Miss England has been given time off to carry out her duties as the country’s most beautiful woman.

Corporal Katrina Hodge, from Tunbridge Wells, flew the English flag at the Miss World competition in Johannesburg recently and will spend the next few months travelling around the world as part of her duties, Kentnews.co.uk reported.

She wanted to carry on as a soldier, however, being Miss England is a full-time job and so she applied for leave so she could do her bit for her country in another way.

An Army spokesman told the newspaper that the forces will give troops unpaid leave in some cases.

"It is possible under certain circumstances to take a career break from the Army, during which time you are not paid. Corporal Hodge asked for leave until August, which has been granted," the representative added.

As well as being Miss England, Corporal Hodge has modelled underwear for La Senza.
