Wounded soldiers and other service personnel in need of medical help are set to benefit from a donation made to three charities by staff at East of England Co-operative.
Some £39,000 was raised by the organisation’s workers during a special fundraising week held in its branches and offices with the view to helping the charities care for servicemen and women.
Help for Heroes, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association Forces Help and the Colchester Garrison Welfare Fund will share the funds raised through a wide range of events, including cake sales, raffles, tombolas, car washing and tug-of-war contests.
“I’m delighted our fundraising has been such a huge success giving us the opportunity to support three very worthy causes that do so much for service personnel,” commented chief executive Richard Samson.
Meanwhile, a group of soldiers are to generate cash for Help for Heroes by completing a windsurfing marathon around the Isle of Wight.
