In terms of cult heroes, they don't come much bigger than Chuck Norris.

The martial artist and actor has long been heralded by men around the world for his macho image.

Now its seems his popularity is going to end up with an honour being bestowed upon him, as a bridge in Slovakia looks set to be named after Norris.

A poll has been held to decide what the structure, which crosses the Morova River into Austria, should be called and it is open until April.

At present, Norris – star of classics such as The Delta Force and Lone Wolf McQuade – has nearly 75 per cent of the vote and looks a certainty to win.

Former Austro-Hungarian empress Maria Thereas and the village of Devinska are also in the running, but both are expected to lose out.

Regional governor Pavol Freso stated: "The same way as we have so far been building it in full sight of the public, we will seek that the name is accepted by the public as well."
