A charity fundraiser is taking part in a 150-mile walk to generate money for soldiers and their families.

Christine Bonner is trekking from Peterborough to Chelmsford to help the Royal Anglian Benevolent Fund, the Norwich Evening News reports.

She is being accompanied by ten soldiers – some of whom have recently returned from serving in Afghanistan – and has made it as far as Norwich yesterday (July 19th).

Ms Bonner remarked: "It’s going really well so far and we have had excellent support from the public along the way.

Seeing people dip their hands into their pockets for a worthy cause despite economic uncertainty is "amazing", she added.

The walker explained she hopes her efforts will help beat the £44,000 total achieved last year.

Royal Air Force engineer Dave Lewis recently detailed his plans to hike across the Malvern Hills to help raise money for the Help for Heroes charity.
