A carpenter has miraculously lived to tell the tale of how he was shot in the heart with a nailgun.

The 19-year-old from Argentina had been working at a wooden pallet factory when a colleague unwittingly fired an 8cm nail into his chest.

Arnaldo Medina, executive director at the El Cruce Nestor Kirchner Hospital, noted surgeons were not able to remove the nail straight away, as it was acting as a stopper and "preventing a haemorrhage".

"With the nail visible, we performed a manual removal of the foreign body, which was embedded in the anterior right ventricular," he added.

Mr Medina remarked the patient is already making good progress and so he has been taken off his ventilator.

This is quite a scary story, but at least it seems as though there will be a happy ending. However, it still highlights how danger can be around the corner at any time, especially when your workmate fire nails at you!
