A terminally-ill cancer patient has placed helping injured soldiers at the top of his bucket list.

Simon Mitchell, a former public relations (PR) man, decided to use his time and contacts to help others after being diagnosed with lymphoma, the Daily Mail reports.

And while the Blackpool resident has been busy helping ill children meet their idols – such as Top Gear favourites Richard Hammond and the Stig – he has also worked with Lancashire charity A Ray of Sunshine to arrange special trips abroad for wounded servicemen and women.

Mr Mitchell used his contacts in the PR world to organise free flights, car hire and entertainment for the soldiers, who included former SAS man Terry Mair.

"It was great to get away and forget about a few things. I can't thank Simon or A Ray Of Sunshine enough," Mr Mair stated, adding it is nice to know there are people out there like Mr Mitchell who are still wanting to help others.
