A bevy of young ladies will be taking part in a retro dance in an attempt to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Barry's Calendar girls – who are creating a 2011 calendar for the charity – are to attend a Back to the 40s party at the Paget Rooms, Barry and District News reports.

The event is being held to generate funds for the Help for Heroes cause, as well as raise awareness of local history.

Ade Pitman, organiser of the get-together, said: "Dances like this were hugely popular during the Second World War."

Music for the celebration is to be provided by the CAVMS Youth Jazz Orchestra, with support from Dipsey Doodle.

Calendar girl Shanni Phillips said the occasion will help the ladies get in the mood for nostalgia, as their shoot is inspired by the 1940s and 50s.

The Foxyhunters calendar, which features sexy female horse riders, is also aiming to raise cash for the Help for Heroes cause.
