Members of Hopwood Hall Cadets have raised £1,100 for the Help for Heroes charity, it has been reported.
Local news source Rochdale Online said that the group worked to come up with a range of different fund raising ideas, from collecting cash in buckets in a supermarket, to holding a celebrity autograph signing session with two local actors and hosting a sponge throwing event.
Actors Ben Davies and Will Ash, stars of BBC drama Waterloo Road, signed autographs for hoards of keen fans and brave volunteers from Hopwood Hall allowed students to throw sponges at them or tip buckets of water over their heads.
A college spokesperson said the day was "a great success" for a "worthy cause".
Later this month, a group of soldiers from Liverpool are to take part in a Valentine's Day-themed fundraising event at the Grange and Pyramids shopping centre in Birkenhead and will be offering massages and kisses to customers.
