A bring and buy sale has helped generate hundreds of pounds for soldiers who have been injured whilst fighting for their country.

The event, held at Keat's House in Headless Cross, raised more than £500 for the Help for Heroes charity, the Redditch Advertiser reports.

It was attended by mayor Kath Banks and its organiser, Frank Appin, said the gathering "went really well".

He noted the get-together managed to collect a considerable amount for the cause and observed the total was particularly impressive as most of the people involved were of pensionable age.

"I couldn't have done it though without the support of family and friends who all helped out on the day so a big thank you should go to them," he added.

The Northwich Guardian recently reported the Blakemere Craft Centre is planning to hold a Second World War-themed event to raise cash for Help for Heroes and the Royal British Legion.
