More than 80 women attended an event wearing their old wedding dress in order to raise money for charity.

Abi Neill, owner of bridal and menswear store Abigail's Collection & The Groom's Room in Colchester, arranged for women to turn up to a bash in the frocks from their big day.

More than 100 people showed up at the gathering and almost £3,000 was raised for Chavasse VC House in Colchester, which is one of four rehabilitation centres run by Help for Heroes, reports the East Anglian Daily Times.

Mrs Neill explained: "Brides constantly tell us that they would love to wear their wedding dresses again – over the years I can honestly say we've heard it virtually weekly."

The charity party gave them a chance for this dream to become a reality, while at the same time enjoying a fun night and raising money for the good cause.

Help for Heroes county coordinator Sue Morgan added she had been extremely impressed with the effort put into organising the event.
