It is every girl's dream to look their very best on their wedding day, so having a head shaved is unlikely to feature highly on most people's wish lists.

But that is exactly what bride Roxy Greaves, 31, did recently as part of an unusual charity stunt that helped her to raise almost £1,300.

Mrs Greaves opted to make a statement in support of Cancer Research just a short time after saying 'I do' to new husband Mick, 30. The couple have both lost relatives to cancer and wanted to do something to show their solidarity with those battling against the disease.

The result was Mr Greaves taking a pair of clippers to his new wife's head just over an hour after they stood at the altar, much to the shock of their 80 guests.

"I always wanted to shave my head for cancer research since I was 16, but I was certain that it should be on a memorable day. I thought about it for a long time, but earlier this year I said 'that's it – I'm doing it on my wedding day'," Roxy explained.

She revealed she had told her groom-to-be of her plan in the run-up to the wedding and he had immediately agreed. In fact, his only rule was that she left her hair on her head until after their vows had been completed.

It marks the continuation of a three-year romance for the pair who began dating after meeting online in 2010, explained the Daily Mail. Soon after, Mr Greaves visited his partner in the Scottish Borders and it wasn't long before he was down on one knee.

"Mick said he prefers me with long hair, but I'm beautiful in his eyes and I can do whatever I like," Mrs Greaves added.

The Just Giving page set up to support the bride in her remarkable challenge has so far raised close to £1,300 for Cancer Research UK.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801649773-ADNFCR
