Two women from Walsall have been so inspired by the story of a brave soldier they decided to hold a fundraiser to generate a few quid for troops.

Claire Shakespeare and her marine brother’s girlfriend Hayley Moore were so touched by Tyler Christopher’s story they held a prize draw for the Help the Heroes charity, thisiswalsall.co.uk reports.

Tyler lost both of his legs while on duty in Afghanistan and the pair were so shocked at the injuries he suffered they contacted local businesses to get some prizes.

They raised more than £300 and Ms Shakespeare told the news provider that the brave men and women on the frontline and at home deserve it plus much more.

"My heart goes out to all the soldiers. You simply have to respect the job they are doing. Tyler is a legend. He is a typical soldier. He said if you get knocked down, you have got to get up again," she stated.

The wives and families of troops serving in the RAF Regiment’s 2 Squadron, 15 Squadron and 27 Squadron recently held a cooking competition designed to keep morale up while their fathers and husbands are in Afghanistan.
