A charity boxing event will take place later this month to raise money for Help for Heroes and two other military groups in support of soldiers.

Christine Wyman from Brierley Hill is organising the occasion on June 18th, where there will be ten live fights, a meal, entertainment and auctions, the Dudley News reports.

Heavyweight stars Tim Witherspoon and John H Stracy are also scheduled to attend the event.

Ms Wyman says she wants to remind people that troops are still serving in the armed forces.

"People think it has gone quite quiet over in Afghanistan at the moment, but planes are still constantly coming back with injured soldiers on board," she remarks.

It is hoped that a total of £20,000 can be raised over the coming year for the organisations, although Ms Wyman says she has already raised a few thousand pounds in her 18 months experience with Help for Heroes.

The work of soldiers was recently acknowledged by David Cameron and Barack Obama, who hosted a BBQ at Downing Street for British and American troops.
