When you're on your first date with a person, it's only natural that you'll want to get a good understanding of how it's going. Are you wasting your time because she doesn't like you? Or are you missing the signs and she really does but you just don't know it?

For most guys, it's all too easy to misread a woman and end up missing the key signs, which can lead to the wrong impression and disappointment. Knowing what someone really means with their body language can save you a lot of worry, especially after you part ways and you want to know how she feels about you.

In the second of our two-part series, we look at what women really mean with their body language.

Eye contact

Of course, you want to know on your first date if someone is into you, and the good news is that there's a pretty easy way to tell if she is. If your date is making eye contact a lot, it will normally mean that she's interested. Long-lasting eye contact or an extended gaze is a sign that she's really interested in talking to you, and if you continually catch her looking when you glance towards her, that's entirely deliberate, she's being flirty and wants you to see her looking.

Playing with her hair

An old cliche, but one that can be a great indicator of how a girl feels about you is if she's playing with her hair. It's a bit of a nervous trait, but it shows you that she likes you. It keeps her hands occupied and gives off something of a playful aura that show she is interested. If a woman is playing with her hair while you're talking, it can mean that she really enjoys listening to you and is focussing on everything you say.

Touching you

While men tend to be a bit more subtle, putting their hands near a woman when they want to show they're interested, girls will be more comfortable with contact. If she likes you, a woman may touch your hand while the two of you are talking, bump into you when you're walking accidentally, or grab your hand or arm when she laughs. It's a great indicator that she wants to be closer to you and shows you that she likes you. The more she touches you, the more she's into you.

Body direction

The way a woman sits or stands can be another good way that you can work out how she feels about you on a first date, both in terms of the way she's facing and if she's leaning towards or away from you.

Firstly, if she's leaning towards you, it's a great sign. It will mean she wants to engage with you and is really interested. By the same token, if she's sitting back in her chair, leaning away from you with her arms folded, it means she's probably closing herself off to the conversation and prefers to keep a distance. This will usually mean she isn't into you, and you might want to just clear your bill and call it a night.

In terms of the angle of her body, if a woman is interested, she's likely to be subconsciously turning herself towards her date. It opens her up for interaction and makes her seem accessible and interested in what you're trying to say.

Preening

This is something that both genders do, and it's something that we see in the animal kingdom as much as we do in humans. When someone is interested, they will really want to impress their date, so they start doing their best to look attractive. This can include things like fixing their clothes to sit right, all the way through to putting on lipstick, running her fingers through her hair or licking her lips.

These sorts of signs are positives, and it can let you know that she is into you, which is not only good news, but can settle your nerves during what can be a nervy time for a lot of people. ADNFCR-2867-ID-801757444-ADNFCR
