Soldiers who take body-building supplements to improve their physical condition could soon develop non-cancerous chest lumps, a medical expert has warned.

Consultant breast surgeon Nader Khonji told the BBC that there has been a massive rise in the number of men he sees with gynaecomastia, from one per week to almost one each day.

He said that, these days, men are much more image conscious and that they are taking these supplements to aid their body building efforts.

"This is leading them to go down the road of weight training and taking supplement and anabolic steroids, which ironically then cause them to develop the breast tissue," he told the news provider.

Mr Khonji added that soldiers who notice the condition need to see a doctor, as it could be a sign of something more sinister.

A study carried out by goodsurgeonguide.co.uk recently found that the number of men having cosmetic surgery to get rid of things such as gynaecomastia has risen by 82 per cent in the last 12 months.
