A black tie dinner held in Chesterfield has raised £10,000 for Help for Heroes (H4H).
The military charity has been left overwhelmed by the generosity of people in the location, the Chesterfield Post reports.
Organiser Lynn Jones had initially hoped to get £5,000 by putting on the event, but was delighted to double her target.
"It was a nice evening. I was really nervous because we were taking a lot of money off people, but the feedback we had was that everyone had enjoyed the whole night," she added.
Various local businesses donated items for a raffle, which included an Apple iMac, the hire of a private villa with a pool in Cyprus and an overnight stay at the Devonshire Arms Bolton Abbey.
The reason Ms Jones decided to get involved is because her friend's husband has done two tours of Afghanistan and so she appreciates the help that servicemen and women need.
