It is often said that dogs are man's best friend and one pub in Newcastle upon Tyne has gone out of its way to make sure the animals are welcomed.

The hostelry has brought out a doggy beer to ensure that the mutts don't go thirsty when their owner's are having a few pints.

Manager of the Brandling Villa pub in Gosforth Dave Carr admitted that he had tasted the drink – which is non-alcoholic – and didn't enjoy it one bit.

He told the Daily Mail: "People seem to think it's a bit mental – we keep it in the fridge along with other beers and they ask what it is."

Not content to make sure all of the pooches have plenty to drink, the location also offers a tailor made dog food menu.

It certainly makes a difference to tying up your dog while nipping in for a swift half and I wouldn't be surprised if it caught on.
