A child was born on a packed train in the south-east this week, after a woman went into labour on the service from London Victoria.

The lady in question welcomed baby Phoebe into the world at West Malling station in Kent, where the train was delayed for the medical procedure to be completed.

Minutes after the new arrival, train operator Southeastern took to Twitter to confirm both mother and baby were doing fine and that a bunch of flowers will be sent as congratulations.

It is still not known exactly who assisted the pregnant woman, with the train company confirming it would normally be the guard's responsibility, but in such a situation he would almost certainly have made an announcement to ask for help.

Many of the passengers later took to social networking sites to express their joy at the news and, for perhaps the first time, nobody seemed to mind that their train was late.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801553723-ADNFCR
