The average person in the UK must go through a number of dates and romantic disasters before they end up with their dream partner.

New research by Quidco has discovered a typical individual will go on 13 first dates in their lifetime, including 11 meals out, but seven 'dating disasters' will be experienced too, prior to meeting 'the one'.

It was also revealed that Britons tend to spend an average of £1,355 on first dates alone during their lives.

Andy Oldham, managing director at Quidco, said: "It seems the money we spend isn't just on the date itself. Many use it as an opportunity to treat themselves to a new outfit, beauty treatment or haircut, not to mention [a] gift."

Those who are seeking a new partner via an online dating site might wish to keep the cost in mind, with the average person spending £3,629 in the first 12 months of a relationship.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801598251-ADNFCR
