A pub in the village of Assington, Sussex, has raised some £3,800 for Help for Heroes.

The Shoulder of Mutton held its annual Party in the Garden in August and all of the donations have now been received, the Suffolk Free Press reports.

BBC Radio Suffolk presenters Lesley Dolphin and Mark Murphy were on hand to give a cheque for the sum to the military charity, which helps injured servicemen and women.

Landlady Tina Braithwaite said: "Nearly everyone knows someone in the army and our customers chose to support Help for Heroes because when the troops get killed, it touches everyone."

It is the third year in a row the fundraiser has been put on and the hostelry also chose to back the armed forces charity in 2010.

Farrington Gurney Church of England Primary School in Somerset has also been collecting money for the organisation.

A sponsored obstacle course was undertaken by some of the pupils and raised a total of £1,066.
