An 18 year-old who wants to join the armed forces is carrying out a 26-mile walk in support of soldiers.

Cameron Burgess is already a member of the Territorial Army (TA), but he wants to become a bomb disposal expert in the future, the Eastwood and Kimberley Advertiser reports.

His challenge is in honour of Help for Heroes and Mr Burgess – along with five comrades – hopes to make around £6,000 for the charity.

"Being in the army is what I've always been interested in since being a kid," Mr Burgess says.

He hopes his work with the TA – which allows people to train and carry out military duties in their spare time – will boost his fitness and prepare him for being a full-time soldier.

The group's charity walk is being carried out in full combat gear and will see them hike from Heanor to Trent Lock, close to Long Eaton, then back again.
