Single soldiers who are a bit unsure about where to start when it comes to setting up an online dating profile should enlist a trusted friend to help them.
The Telegraph suggested that teaming up with a mate to write a profile "can work wonders", especially for people who are nervous about getting it wrong.
It pointed out that friends can help people write an honest personal profile that shows off their best attributes, as well as acting as a second opinion when it comes to choosing a good picture.
Pals can also help point out qualities a person may be too modest to admit to – giving them the added push to really sell themselves to potential partners online.
Single soldiers setting up a profile for the first time should take care to choose a picture where they are smiling.
According to Sydney Morning Herald writer Dominic Knight, big smiles are the key to attracting a mate.
"Smile and the web will smile with you," he said.
