An army major was emotionally reunited with his family yesterday, meeting his newborn son for the first time.

Squadron leader William Waugh was greeted by his wife Georgina and ten-day old child Harry at the Tidowrth Barracks in Wiltshire, where 87 other troops were also welcomed back by their loved ones.

The soldiers, from EGYPT, a tank squadron of the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment, had been on a six-month tour of duty in Helmand province.

Ms Waugh was overcome with emotion at seeing her brave husband arrive back on UK soil and pleased that her husband can hold their new child.

"I have been emailing William pictures of our new baby but he has not been receiving them, I think he has only seen one picture and that was when I first gave birth so he is very excited about meeting him for the first time," she added.

Captain Dan Wright, speaking on behalf of 2RRF, recently paid tribute to locals in Northumberland for turning out to welcome troops home recently, the Northumberland Gazette reported.
