Armed Forces Day 2015 will take place in Guildford, it has been announced.

The historic town will be the venue to give the nation a chance to display its backing for men and women who are serving in the armed forces, with the local council preparing a fantastic range of activities for the public to pay respects to military personnel.

Guildford Borough Council will host a service at Guildford Cathedral and a parade in Guildford High Street, while a picnic and proms in the park event is also scheduled.

This year’s event took place in Stirling, Scotland, where there was a parade, live music and an unarmed combat display.

Councillor David Elms, the mayor of Guildford, said: “Guildford will be the focus for the whole country and this wonderful celebration will allow local people and the wider community to thank all those working within our armed forces.

“We expect to welcome tens of thousands of residents and visitors. I hope that everyone enjoys their time with us on this special day.”

Stephen Mansbridge, leader of Guildford Council, explained that he was “tremendously proud” to announce that the area has been selected as the venue for the Armed Forces Day event in Britain next year.

There are many online and offline resources that aim to help people understand the work of the Armed Forces, with a new section on the charity’s website now helping schoolchildren between the ages of five and 16 to better understand the military culture.

Split into five categories, the media hopes to answer any questions students have about the Armed Forces.

It is hoped the resource will present an opportunity to increase awareness of the Armed Forces’ efforts at the domestic and international levels.

There is a range of links, photos and videos for readers to view on the website, offering an interactive way of learning for those who are looking to understand the drive and commitment required from military personnel. ADNFCR-2867-ID-801747264-ADNFCR
