An Antrim woman is to do her bit to help soldiers injured while fighting for Queen and country by holding a fundraiser next month.

Donna Watson, from Jordanstown, is to hold a black-tie ball at the Dunady Spa Hotel to raise money for the Help for Heroes charity, which provides financial support to troops who have been hurt while in battle.

She told the Antrim Times that she got her inspiration after hearing about the brave boys and girls who put their lives on the line each day to protect their country.

"I just thought, enough is enough, these young soldiers are coming back with horrific injuries and I was so touched by their stories I felt I had to do something," she said.

Ms Watson added that the public have got on board, with demand for tickets so high she could have sold them ten times over.

The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) Forces Help charity recently launched a new scheme called Target 125 which encourages members of the public to raise £125 however they can and donate it so the body can carry on supporting servicemen and women.
