A West Yorkshire couple have asked friends and family celebrating their golden wedding anniversary to support soldiers rather than buy them gifts.
Speaking to the Keighley News, Mary and Bill Cryer revealed that they celebrated 50 years of married life together by holding a party at Keighley Rugby Union Club on Saturday (October 23rd).
However, the pair requested guests make a donation to Help for Heroes instead of giving them presents.
In addition to donating to the armed services charity, which supports soldiers injured while serving their country, people were also encouraged to give money to the St Vincent de Paul Society.
Earlier this month, musician Midge Ure told the Bath Chronicle that Christmas in My Heart – a track recorded by pupils at the city's Prior Park College – will be available to purchase through his Tunited website. Proceeds from the single are to be donated to Help for Heroes.
