Corporal Tom Neathway very nearly lost his life when an improvised explosive device went off while he was on patrol in Kajaki in northern Helmand Province.

Despite losing both legs and one of his arms, corporal Neathway is desperate to get back to work and help the troops still in Afghanistan, the Oxford Mail reported.

At the moment he is working as an administrator at RAF Brize Norton and visits injured troops being treated at Selly Oak hospital in Birmingham.

He told the newspaper that he loves the armed forces and while he is keen to get back on the frontline, he enjoys supporting soldiers who have been hurt in battle.

"I would love to return to the frontline and the option is pretty much there for me if I want to, but at the moment there is a more worthwhile job for me visiting the injured troops that come back and aiding their recovery any way I can," corporal Neathway said.

TV presenter Ben Fogle, writing in the Daily Mail, recently claimed that the whole nation should be proud of those who risk life and limb for their country, describing them as true heroes.
