Members of the public will soon be able to see heavy armour used by British troops fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan in a new exhibition coming to the Tank Museum in Bovington.

Bosses from the museum are in talks with army and defence chiefs about the scheme, the Dorset Echo reported, with officials hoping to have the gear on show by next spring.

The government has already said it will give £50,000 to the project and Richard Smith, the museum’s director, said it will be a great way to show the public what British troops have been doing in Afghanistan and the equipment they are given.

"We have the memorial here for the post-1945 Armoured Corp fallen and the list is growing. We want to tell the story of British Royal Armoured Corp soldiers, the story of what they are doing today," he told the newspaper.

Earlier this week, Firing Line: Cardiff Castle Museum of the Welsh Soldier opened in the capital city, telling the story of the role Welsh soldiers have played in the army.
