They say a dog is man’s best friend and the brave boys and girls from C Company, 3rd Battalion The Rifles have found that out.

While trying to bring peace to Afghanistan, they have been accompanied by Tangye the black Labrador, whose super hooter has saved soldiers’ bacon more than once.

They have become so close to the pooch that they are worried an improvised explosive device or gun fire could see him lose his life.

That’s why the troops have launched a campaign to find Tangye a home in the UK as a thank you for his service to the country.

Lance corporal Brent Meheux said that everyone loves their four-legged friend.

"It would mean an awful lot to the lads to know he was safe. He has been such a morale booster," he added.

In another heart-warming tale from the sandy planes of Afghanistan, British medics recently saved the life of a six-year-old boy named Rahmadullah, who had fallen ill with tetanus.
